EFFICIENT20 is a European funded initiative to help farmers and foresters to reduce their fuel usage by 20%. Fuel used in farming machinery represents more than 50% of the energy consumed in agriculture, so introducing fuel saving measures brings significant cost savings to farming businesses.
Compare your fuel usage
Fuel measurements recorded by farmers from across Europe are now available for comparison and analysis in the Efficient20 Fuel Consumption Database. With over 300 farming and forestry “operations” already recorded, the database is an important tool in helping farmers see the effectiveness of different fuel-saving techniques.
While there are many factors which affect fuel consumption, farmers are encouraged to measure their fuel usage for an activity and then repeat the measurement (ideally on the same day and in the same field) when trying out different fuel-saving techniques (such as driving at the most efficient rpm, adjusting tyre pressures and using ballast to reduce wheel-slip and soil compaction). The database can compare these “before” and “after” measurements and show farmers the savings they can make.
Eco-driving training sessions are being run in March and April to help farmers get the most from their tractors.
